21. Intermezzo

Every play, ballet and opera has an intermission. This is my little break.

Nili at the Krakow Opera House

I began writing up my adventures in WordPress because many of my loyal travel followers suggested that I write a book about my trips. That sounded enticing but I just didn’t feel like looking for an agent/publisher and really sprucing up my write ups. Also, I didn’t really know if my “audience” would be more interested in the adventures themselves or in the knowledge I gained about how to plan and execute the trips. The latter will follow the Special Trips posts.

For 25 years now, during each of my trips I sent out an email report a few times a week, detailing the experiences of the previous day(s). At first, the emails went to my three children, in order that they wouldn’t worry about us when we traveled in strange countries. Then the list expended to siblings and close friends. On each group trip, my fellow travelers would ask why I was taking such copious notes, I would tell them about the list of family/friends who followed me on the trips. These new friends would ask to be added. Over time the list has grown to almost 100 followers.

When I returned from the trips, I combined the emails into a log, and then wrote up the highlights of the trips into a 4 -8 page summary. These summaries are the basis of the posts that you have been reading. To liven up the summaries, I went back through my pictures and looked for some that would enhance the story. I have been asked if it is a lot of work. Yes, it is, but it is a labor of love for two reasons: 1) I hope that my future great grandkids will get to know me through my adventures. My kids and grandkids already know that I am crazy and love me for it or in spite of it. 2) I love re-living the adventures and sharing them with all of you.

I have now published 20 posts of Nili’s Adventures, which means that I am about 1/2 through the trips. What can you look forward to? Most exotic trips to come are: Madagascar, Easter Island, China, Tanzania, Tahiti and Japan. There are also lots of European trips to countries such as Greece, Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, and Portugal.

I hope you are enjoying the journey with me. Let me know your thoughts and seriously, if you see mis-spellings or grammatical errors, don’t hesitate to let me know. I would like the finished product to be error free.
